Cavalry skirmish at Abadar, 22 March 1898

On 22 March, a body of Egyptian cavalry encountered a force of mounted Dervishes at Abadar, who were advancing in considerable numbers down the river, which was thickly wooded. The outposts of Captain Baring's squadron were driven in, and Captain Persse was ordered to clear the bush. Headed by the latter, the Egyptians charged with great gallantry, routed the enemy, and followed them up for over four miles.
